A Humbling Experience

It’s been 20 years since I had the chance to stand here, in the middle of Lake Louise. It’s a humbling experience to be standing on one of Canada’s most famous lakes. Frozen, surrounded on all sides by mountains.

God I love this place. On the left is the tail end of Mount Lefroy, Mount Huber and in the distance is Mount Victoria and Victoria Glacier. It’s hard to imagine, and I try not to, that if you turn 180° the view is of the Lake Louise resort. Thousands of people, hundreds of cars, and more languages being spoken that you can count.

I always hope people who visit here get what it is they are seeing and experiencing. I doubt it though, to be honest. I think for most tourists it’s one of those place you go to get your ,”I’ve been to some really pretty places”, passport stamped. It’s a slide show.

It’s not an exaggeration to say these places, especially here, are my church. Without getting into the complexities which are my spiritual life, if I were looking for God, this is where I’d go looking.
