There are bears out there…somewhere.

The briefing started something like this..

The Alaska state government requires me to inform you…

And ends something like this…

…but the temperature of the water is about 40 degrees so if we go in…well…

Take all the stereotypes of bush pilots you’ve seen on TV and the movies and roll them all together. Then add a bit of Relic from the Beachcombers (who incidentally was a WWII bomber pilot) and you’ve got my pilot. But really what else would you expect? Four passengers and a pilot and a surprising well taken care of sea plane.

But here’s the thing. I would have taken any mode of transportation including the worlds largest slingshot to arrive at the above. An Island somewhere off the coast of Alaska. A salmon hatchery close by.  And where there are salmon there are bears!

This was actually taken on the way back from a long day of hiking and stalking bears. An amazing day that I wish would would have been a week. I love Alaska. The people and the places. I can’t wait to go back.
