These flowers were one of my favorite things in the garden at my place on Chebucto. Called Dianthus flowers, they also go by the name of Pinks. They don’t last long but when they are at their best they smell incredible. A combination of cinnamon and cloves. I would smell these every day on my way to and from work!
It would be a lie to say I had something specific in mind when I began shooing these but as soon as I set up it was obvious something interesting could be accomplished with narrow depth of field. The pink flowers in soft focus, set on the almost perfectly smooth field of green makes for something quite interesting to me.
I found the following on Dianthus flowers which researching this post.
“The colour pink is actually named after this flower. The flower pink is named for the ragged edges on each petal; dressmakers will be familiar with pinking shears, scissors which produce a zigzag cut similar to the petal edges. Pinks have a very old history and can often be seen in the background of medieval tapestries and renaissance paintings.”
